The Award is given at IFSCC Congresses to the best scientific paper submitted to any of the 8 issues of the IFSCC Magazine published in the previous 2 years.

The International Federation of Societies of Cosmetic Chemists (IFSCC) organises an internationally recognised Congress each year. Competition to present at these Congresses is highly competitive, ensuring the maintenance of an exceptional standard of scientific papers. Attendance typically ranges from 1,200 to 2,000 delegates from around the world.

The IFSCC actively encourages member societies to participate in all Federation activities. Participation is measured through two primary metrics: the number of individual members within a society and the scientific contributions made by each member society at IFSCC Congresses. These metrics are combined to determine IFSCC society rankings. Only the highest-ranking societies are eligible to join the IFSCC Presidium and to host IFSCC Congresses.

While the scale of company-based cosmetic research in Australia is smaller compared with regions such as the United States, Europe, and Japan, Australia nonetheless undertakes substantial research highly relevant to the cosmetics industry. Much of this research is conducted within universities, research institutes, and private enterprises.

To support these research activities and encourage participation in the IFSCC Congress, the Australian Society of Cosmetic Chemists (ASCC) has established the IFSCC Travel Award.
At the discretion of the ASCC Council, and subject to budgeting and other relevant considerations, the allocation of Scientific Points and associated funding may be adjusted.

As a general guide:

  • Poster presentations attract 2 Scientific Points (1 point for a local congress)
  • Podium presentations attract 5 Scientific Points (2.5 points for a local congress)

Up to AUD $1,000 per Scientific Point may be awarded as a reimbursement of eligible expenses incurred in attending the IFSCC Congress, capped at a maximum of 5 points.

All awards are subject to applicants meeting the eligibility criteria. No guarantee of funding is made until a formal application has been received, reviewed, and approved by the ASCC Council. The exact funding allocated will depend on the number of applications received and the overall funds available. The decision of the ASCC Council is final.
